Frank Beard (Frank Lee Beard) an American drummer of the American rock band ZZ Top as well as a songwriter who previously worked with The Celler Dwellers band which was earlier a three-piece band as well as The Warlocks and American Blues.

Beard is the drummer of rock band ZZ top. He was a member of The Zombies, a fake version of the British Band before joining ZZ top. The band used to tour in the United States without permission from the original band members. The Zombies were part of The Outlaws. Beard joined the Moving Sidewalks in 1969, the band that would become the ZZ Top. He has also played in the bands the Cellar Dwellers, the Warlocks, and American Blues.

Frank did introduce Gibbons who was a bassist and Dusty Hill who was a vocalist. They played in the bands American Blues, The Cellar Dwellers as well as the Warlocks. They released their aptly titled ZZ Top’s First Album in January 1971 on London Records after heir trademark “Texas boogie-blues-rock” style. Frank was known by the name “Rube” when ZZ Top started. He was later as “Rube Beard” on the first album.

The band’s third album, Tres Hombres is listed under his real name on Rio Grande Mud. He was then credited as “Frank Beard” after Tres Hombresn all the band’s albums. He was long known as the only member of ZZ Top who used not to wear a luxuriant beard despite his name. Bandmates, Billy Gibbons and Dusty used to end to this long-running quirky fact circa 2013 by growing one.
