Sargent started off her journalism career back in 2000 working as a reporter/anchor at the NBC-affiliate KOMU-TV in Columbia. She served the station for two years and later leaving and joining the London bureau of NBC News where she worked for several years before finally leaving.
She then practiced labor and employment law for four years back in New York City’s Greenberg Traurig law firm as of 2006 to 2010. She represented clients in New York federal andas well state courts sharing free legal services to the needy ones. She later got back her journalism career in 2010 as a legal show anchor for the NBC-affiliate WPMI-TV in Alabama.
Back in 201 she got to work as a weekend news anchor in another NBC-affiliate KPRC-TV basse was located in Houston, Texas. won several awards including an Emmy Award alongside her colleagues for the coverage of the deadly West Texas fertilizer plant explosion while she was working at KPRC-TV. Sargent received her award in 2014.
She later became a weekend anchor at WFOR-TV in Miamianchoring 5 pm. and 11 pm news till 2015. At WFOR-TV and as well hosted the public affairs show Focus on South Florida and the news segment Legally Speaking. She joined CBS 2 Chicago in 2015 as a weekend evening news anchor, broadcasting 5 pm, 6 pm, and 10 pm news.
She has been involved in helping many non-profit organizations such as the Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, Habitat for Humanity, Haymarket Center, American Red Cross, Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, Easterseals, 100 Black Men of Chicago, Alzheimer’s Association and the American Cancer Society.
