Jaxson Hayes NBA draft

when projecting him for the next level … Standing 6’11” and sporting a 7’4” wingspan with massive hands and a frame that should easily be able to build from his current 220-pound weight … He as well also pairs this with fluid athleticism and end to end speed.

At Texas this length and athleticism allowed him to protect the rim at an elite level. Jaxson blocked 2.2 shots per game (3.77 per 40 minutes) and altered a significant amount of potential shots. These physical traits should translate to the next level and make him a legit NBA rim protector.

Jaxson Hayes’ mobility also allows him to hedge well during pick and roll defense. His defense is probably his calling card at this point in his development, but Hayes has offensive appeal as a rim runner/lob target as well as a player with a track record of finishing around the rim.

His massive hands also make him a high-level lob target who can grab just about everything in his vicinity … He’s also a pretty solid offensive rebounder (1.8 orpg) and can be respectable collecting misses …

Hayes is the Atlanta Hawks at No,-end NBA prospect early cementing himself as the top center prospect in the draft.

“Hayes’ lack of experience, relatively raw offensive game and still developing feel likely will relegate him to project status for most NBA teams, but that shouldn’t be too much of a deterrent at this point in the draft.”

The latest mock drafts from CBS Sports writers Gary Parrish and Kyle Boone, along with Sports Illustrated’s Jeremy Woo.

A former four-star recruit out of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, Hayes was ranked as the nation’s No. 102 overall prospect and No. 21 power forward in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He was also the No. 5 player in the state of Ohio.

The 6-foot-11, 220-pounder appeared in 32 games as a true freshman for the Longhorns. He suffered a season-ending knee injury in a loss to Kansas in the quarterfinals of Big 12 tournament and missed the entirety of the team’s run to the National Invitation Tournament title.

Hayes set a new single-season school record for field goal percentage and ranked third in the Big 12 in blocks per game, garnering second-team All-Big 12 honors. Now he’ll look to become the 13th first-round pick and the eighth lottery pick produced by the Texas program since Chris Mihm went No. 7 overall in 2000 to the Chicago Bulls (traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers).
