Mike Shildt Biography

Mike Shildt an American baseball coach serving as the manager the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball as of 2009. He became the manager of the Springfield Cardinals, Cardinals AA affiliate back in 2011. He started serving as the major league coaching staff back in 2017 and later became manager baack in 2018 after the dismissal of Mike Matheny. Back on July 15th, 2018, he earned his first managerial win in a 6–4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Back in October 9th, 2019, he led his team to a 13-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves to win the NLDS.

Shildt started off his Major League Baseball career as an associate scout with the league for three seasons. He later joined the Cardinals organization, working as the area scout for North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. With a recommendation from future Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak, he started his minor league coaching career as a part-time coach.

He got sent to the Cardinals’ Single-A affiliate in the New York–Penn League and served as a part-time coach during 2004 and 2005, while continuing his scouting duties. He got promoted to a full-time coaching position back in 2006 and kept coaching with the single-A affiliate upto the 2007 season. Back in 2008, he coordinated the Cardinals’ minor league spring training workout camp. He later became the hitting coach for the Johnson City Cardinals for the 2008 season.
