Susie Dent Biography
Susie Dent an English Lexicographer, Etymologist and Media Personality known for her roles on the Channel 4 game show ‘Countdown’ in the “Dictionary Corner” season since 1992. She as well makes appearances on Channel 4 panel show “8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown” and is the Honorary Vice-President of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) since 2016.

In 1992, at the age of 27, Dent ,made her first appearance on Countdown and has been the show’s resident word expert in almost 3,500 episodes as of 2018. Her role in the show is to come up with answers for the show’s anagrams although in 2009 it was revealed that sometimes she gets help from producers through an earpiece.
Dent has been credited as a top-tier member of the production team alongside Nick Hewer and Rachel Riley beginning in Series 72 in 2015. Since Series 57, she has been given a regular slot prior to the second numbers round called Origins of Words, in which she explains the derivations of well-known words or phrases.
She celebrated her 25th anniversary as Countdown lexicographer on 29th June 2017. That day’s programme featured several tributes and gifts to her, with that day’s Dictionary Corner guest Colin Murray reading a poem on her behalf and Nick Hewer presenting her with a postcard signed by Arsène Wenger, the manager of her favored football club Arsenal.
