Ted Haggard Biography

Ted Haggard is a well-known American pastor, author, speaker, and St. James Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Haggard is also the church planting leader of the Rivers Conference of the Free Methodist Church and the founder and director of the Church Network.

Ted was born and raised in Yorktown, Indiana, USA, and attended Oral Roberts University, a Christian school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He later graduated in 1978 with a major in communications and a minor in journalism.

Haggard later earned a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Phoenix and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Colorado Christian University.

After marrying his wife, Gail, in 1978, the couple founded their first church, New Life Church. The organization has achieved 22 consecutive years of double-digit growth through turnover. They watched the conference grow from 20 people gathered at their headquarters to 14,000 people on the $60 million campus.

Then came their second church, St. James Church. Between 2003 and 2006, he also served as president of the National Association of Evangelicals, which has 30 million members.

He even founded the Church of God, which later joined the Church of God in 2006. In 2006, Haggard resigned from all leadership positions to take time to recuperate and recover.
