Thomas James Morstead is an American football player who plays as a quarterback for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at SMU and was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Thomas was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in a neighborhood near Pearland, Texas. [2] He has an older brother named Patrick.

In football, as a senior, Morstead earned second-team all-district honors and was named Brazoria County special teams MVP. He was a member of the 2005 Conference USA Academic Hall of Fame but did not appear in any games. Morstead took over kicking and punting duties in 2006 and earned third-team All-American honors.

Led the American Conference with an average of 43.82 yards on 50 attempts; this was the best average since SMU punter Craig James averaged 44.9 yards per game in 1982.
