Tito Santana Biography

Tito Santana (Merced Solis) an American semi-retired professional wrestler and a fan favorite throughout his entire career and is best known for his appearances with the World Wrestling Federation between 1979 and 1993.

He got was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2004. During his time in the WWF, Santana, despite being born and raised in Texas, was billed from “Tocula, Mexico”, which may be a misspelled reference to the city of Toluca. Santana as well appears on the independent circuit.

Tito Santana Wrestling Career

Tito was first taught how to wrestle by Yasuhiro Kojima and Bob Orton. He made his first debut in 1977 while working for Championship Wrestling from Florida. Later that year he joined Georgia Championship Wrestling until 1978.

From there he joined World Wrestling Federation where he beat Mike Hall in 1979. he made alliances with Ivan Putski to defeat Johnny Valiant and Jerry Valiant for WWF Tag Team Championship in 1979.

Tito and his partner held the title for six months straight. However, they lost their title to the Wild Samoans in April 1980. He then quit the promotions in 1981. He started wrestling in the American wrestling association (AWA) from 1980 to 1982.

Thereafter he decided to0 turn back to WWF in 1982 where he made his television comeback on the May 14, 1983, episode of Championship wrestling from 1982 to early 1983.

He was also engaged in a long feud with WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight champion the Magnificent Muraco. He finally won the on February 11, 1984, making him the first Mexican – American to win the title of Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion.
