Caroline Ellison an American former business executive and the former CEO of Alameda Research, Sam Bankman-quantitative Fried’s trading firm.

Ellison got raised up in a suburb of Boston and enrolled at Newton North High School and later competed for the United States in the 2011 International Linguistics Olympiad. She earned a National Merit Scholarship back in 2012. Back in 2016, she earned a mathematics bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.
At Stanford, she got placed in the top 500 students in the Putnam Competitions back in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Ellison started off her career working for Jane Street, a quantitative trading company and there he first met Sam Bankman-Fried.
Back in March 2018, she began serving at Alameda Research, and in October 2021, together with Sam Trabucco they earned the title of co-CEO. She later served as sole CEO of Alameda Research in August 2022 following Trabucco’s resignation.
Back on November 6, 2022, after CoinDesk raised concerns about Alameda Research’s balance sheet and its relationship with FTX, she stated that the balance sheet information released only included a portion of Alameda’s assets, and that the firm had more than $10 billion in additional assets.

John J. Ray III fired Ellison after FTX, Alameda Research together with over 100 related companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. She later hired Stephanie Avakian of the white shoe law firm WilmerHale as her lead attorney back in early December 2022.

“From 2019 through 2022, I was aware that Alameda was provided access to a borrowing facility on FTX.com, the cryptocurrency exchange run by Mr. Bankman-Fried,” Ellison said. “In practical terms, this arrangement permitted Alameda access to an unlimited line of credit without being required to post collateral, without having negative balances and without being subject to margin calls on FTX.com’s liquidation protocols.”
Bankman-Fried, 30, the disgraced crypto exchange founder, faces multiple charges from the Southern District of New York and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The charges include conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit commodities fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and conspiracy to defraud the Federal Election Commission and commit campaign finance violations.
He was released Thursday on $250 million bond after his arrest in the Bahamas earlier this month.
Federal prosecutors said he used millions of dollars in customer funds to finance a lavish lifestyle through Alameda.
Ellison said that “if Alameda’s FTX accounts had significant negative balances in any particular currency, it meant that Alameda was borrowing funds that FTX’s customers had deposited on the exchange,” the Bloomberg report said.
