Colin Mayfield WLWT

Colin joined WLWT in October 2013 as a News Anchor. He is currently the anchor of Hearst. He previously worked at WSAW as a News Anchor and Reporter from May 2012 to January 2014 where his roles included writing and editing stories for the six o’clock and ten o’clock news shows, constructing and producing a news cast. At WSAW, he utilized relationship building skills to establish contacts through the public relations office.

He as well worked as a Reporter and Anchor at Marquette University Television where he Anchored MUTV’s premiere News show, Wrote and edited stories for MUTV’s News show, and Synchronized film shots and voice overs to put together on air packages. Prior to being in the media or journalism industry, Colin was a Sales representative at Tinters Plus, LLC from March 2008 to January 2012.

Colin Mayfield Covid-19

Back in 2019/2020 during the Corona virus outbreak, Colin took part in the UC Health COVID-19 vaccine trial. During the trial Dr. Carl Fichtenbaum (the lead doctor in the trial) wanted to understand his health history to advise side effects and risks. It was an important part, but with the vaccine in the final stage, he was told the side effects can be compared to what you might expect with the seasonal flu shot. Dr. Carl also explained that it was very easy for people to generate and make the vaccine, and it was also not the whole virus, so it was not running the risk of the virus actually causing disease in people.

Dr. Carl, explained that in his fist short, there was really no sensation or pain and felt like his normal flu vaccine. After waiting for thirty minutes to be observed, he went home and not thinking much of it for nearly two hours, he lost his taste. He rushed to UC for COVID testing to make sure he had not exposed his family or anyone else. He tested negative and the trial continued. Throughout the next seven days, and again after his second dose, he documented what he felt and how his body reacted, which was thankfully uneventful.

The vaccine itself was engineered with only parts of the Covid-19 virus (Coronavirus). This meant that the vaccine itself cannot create infection. Once inside the body, it is intended to boost the immune system against the virus.
