Cyril Ramaphosa Career
After completing his legal qualifications and obtaining his degree, he joined the Trade Union Council of South Africa (CUSA) as Trade Union Counsel Law. In 1982, CUSA asked Cyril to form a miners’ union; In the same year, a new union was established and named the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).
In March 1986 Ramaphosa was part of the COSATU delegation that met with the African National Congress in Lusaka, Zambia. Following his election as secretary-general of the African National Congress (ANC), he was appointed chairman of the board, a position he held until June 1991, when he resigned.
In December 1988 Ramaphosa and other prominent members of the Soweto community met with the mayor of Soweto to discuss complaints about rent.
