Damon Hill is a British racing driver best known for winning the 1996 Formula 1 World Championship. Hill was one of the few drivers to win a championship in his debut season and was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006. He also found success off the track and founded the Damon Hill Motorsports Philosophy, a racing consultancy.

Damon Hill Career

He began his racing career in karting in the late 1970s. Hill then moved to Formula Ford 1600, where he scored several victories in 1982. In 1983 Hill stepped up to Formula Vauxhall Lotus and finished 7th in the championship. In 1985 Damon competed in the British Touring Car Championship, achieving 10 podiums and several victories, notably at Donington Park and Silverstone.

In 1992 he made his F1 debut at the South African Grand Prix. Hill quickly earned a reputation for being a reliable, albeit sober, driver. Hill’s first win was at the 1993 Hungarian Grand Prix. The following season, Damon entered the championship fight, winning eight races and finishing one point behind the title-winning Schumacher.

In 1996 he became the first driver since his father to win the F1 World Championship. Damon made his dream come true by winning three races, including the Japanese Grand Prix, and taking the title. Hill continued to drive in F1 until 1999, but was not as successful as 1996. In 2000 Hill retired from the sport and was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
