Drue committed to attend Purdue University, but turned it down when he received an offer from Notre Dame. As a freshman at Notre Dame in 2014, he appeared in 11 games, starting three and recording one pass breakup, a fumble recovery, one interception and 33 tackles for loss. He played in three games and started one as a sophomore in 2015, but was sidelined all season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear while celebrating against Georgia Tech after Sept. 19. He was able to compete in the 2018 season as a freshman and received medical leave for the 2015 season. He started all 12 matches for Ireland in 2016, recording one tackle and two tackles for tackle. and 79 steals. Drew finished the year with one forced fumble, one interception, four passes defensed, three fumble receptions and 85 tackles. As a senior in 2017, he started all 13 games and totaled 10.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks. At the end of the 2017 season, he announced that he would return for a fifth year as a graduate student in mechanical engineering for the 2018–19 season.
