Gregg Rolie Biography

Gregg Rolie an American Singer-Songwriter, Keyboardist and Organist  co-founder and the lead singer of Santana, Journey and Abraxas Pool bands. He as well contributed to the American rock band known as The Storm while he founded his own Gregg Rolie Band.

Currently, he works with the Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band from where he performs together with his band. In 1998, he was introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after which he was inducted twice as a member of Santana and in 2017 as a member of journey.

Gregg is among the founders of the Santana band and it was his initial band that he was involved in. In 1966 he joined other fellas like Carlos Santana and formed the Santana Blue Band. He was a member of their first success such that they appeared at the Woodstock Music and Art Festival among other hit albums. With time, they developed differences with motive and aims of their band which led him leaving the group towards the 1971 end. In the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, he is inducted as a member of Santana.

Rolie was involved during the foundation of the Journey band. The band was formed after he left the Santana band in 1973 with one of the former Santana guitarist Neal Schon.

Within the band, there were other members including Ross Valory, Steve Smith, Ashley Dumba and Steve Perry. Featuring them, he produced several albums for the band such as Infinity, Capture, Journey, Evolution, Departure, Look into the Future among others.

Initially, he was the lead vocalist and keyboardist for the band while later became a backup vocalist and keyboardist as Steve Perry took over. They have co-leaded several vocals for many of the Journey songs and in 1980, he left the group.
