Jamie Foxx Biography

Jamie Foxx ( Eric Marlon Bishop) an American actor, singer, songwriter, producer, and comedian. He was born to Darrell Bishop and Louise Annette Talley Dixon. Soon after his birth, Foxx was adopted and raised by his mother’s adoptive parents, Esther Marie (Nelson), and Mark Talley.

Foxx’s talents began when he was still a young boy in school. At five years old, he was already playing the piano and when he became a teenager, he joined Terrell New Hope Baptist Church as a choir leader and pianist. He was also a funny student such that his teacher would tell him to tell jokes to his class when they behaved.

In his high school life, he used to play football as a quarterback and basketball for his school Terrell High School and a participant in a band called Leather and Lace. Jamie later joined United States International University through a scholarship to study music and performing arts composition.

Jamie joined the comedy world through a dare from his then-girlfriend at around 1989 in a comedy club open mic night event. Through his experience, he learned that those female comedians were given the first chance to perform and he, therefore, changed his name to Jamie Foxx, a name which to him sounded like a gender-neutral name.

His first play to star in was called In Living Color in 1991 then The Jamie Foxx Show which was his own sitcom from 1996 to 2001. His first film was the comedy film Toys in 1992 followed by Any Given Sunday in 1999. Since then, he was acting non-stop appearing in more than 20 films and television shows between the period of 2000 and 2019.

Foxx’s memorable films are when he starred alongside Will Smith in Ali, a biographical film of Michael Mann and in Collateral as a taxi driver alongside Tom Cruise. For this, he was nominated for the American Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1994 he joined music and released his debut album, Peep This in 1994.

In 2004, Foxx starred in the Biographical film of Ray Charles called Ray. His acting skills made him win the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a leading role and the American Award for Best Actor.

As if it wasn’t enough, Foxx’s album which he released in 2005 was certified double Platinum by RIAA after reaching #1 after one week of its debut. He received four Grammy Award nominations in 2006 December 8th for Best Rap/Sung collaboration for Unpredictable featuring Ludacris, Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for Georgia by Ludacris & Field Mob, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for Love Changes featuring Mary J. Blige, and Best R&B Album for Unpredictable.

With all this success, he proceeded to star in a lead role in The Kingdom alongside Jason Bateman. Chris Cooper, Ashraf Barhom, and Jenniffer Garner. His hard work eventually paid in 2007 when he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in September 2007.
