Jayden began his college career at Western Michigan. Jayden caught 56 passes for 797 yards and eight touchdowns, and the Football Writers Association of America named him a Freshman All-American. Reed announced he would be leaving the program at the end of the season. Jayden eventually decided to transfer to Michigan State University.
Due to NCAA rule changes, Jayden left the team and redshirted during his first season at MSU. Redshirt sophomore Jayden started all seven games during MSU’s COVID-19-shortened 2020 season and recorded a team-high 33 catches, three touchdowns and 407 yards.
Additionally, Jayden was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention as a kick return specialist, returning 16 kickoffs for 329 yards and two touchdowns for 14 yards. Reed was evaluated in the fourth week of his redshirt junior season after he caught a 62-yard field goal and took two kickoff returns for 69 yards in a 23-20 overtime victory over Nebraska.
