Vera Jc De Business

“Before I entered show business, I played basketball. I was supposed to pursue a basketball scholarship, but showbiz came along. I was in third-year high school when I started training for a college scholarship. That time, I met tita Annabelle Rama. She was my first manager. She asked me if I wanted to be an actor. I was just 17…still immature. All I thought then was that showbiz would be a good source of income. After two weeks, tita Annabelle put me in a TV show, called Click,” he tells the Daily Tribune.

“I have been in the industry for 16 years now,” he muses, “Sixteen silent years in show business.”

“For 16 years, I have kept myself very grounded. I am happy with the pace I have kept. I think there are setbacks to having so much intensity when you rise to success. Some things tend to suffer, like relationships, or time for yourself. I chose to be balanced. If it will be good for my career, I will give it my all,” he shares.

“Among the lowest points in my career was when I left GMA for another network; the second time it happened was when I left again for another network. That was hard for me because I gave up my dream to pursue show business. I was beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel, then I was taken out of that path. I considered it as my biggest downfall,” he relates.

“When I moved to the second network (TV5), I was starting to find my groove again — my acting was improving, I was being given opportunities to explore, which gave me a wider range. I gained more knowledge to improve my craft because I was being given the freedom to explore. I was gaining my confidence again.”

When the network underwent a new business direction, many of its stars’ contracts were no longer renewed, among them JC’s. “I was broken up all over again,” he confesses.

“Fortunately, I was able to have savings from those three years. The first time it happened to me, moving from one home network to another, I realized how uncertain this business is, so I saved,” he says.
