Joe Thomas Biography

Joe Thomas, fully known as Joseph Owen Thomas is a famous English professional actor and comedian. Thomas is famous for playing Simon Cooper in the award-winning E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners (2008-2010) and its 2 film adaptations, The Inbetweeners Movie (2011) and The Inbetweeners 2 (2014). Both of the films achieved box office success.

Following The Inbetweeners ending, he remained connected to Channel 4, joining the cast of the comedy-drama series Fresh Meat in 2011, and playing the role of Kingsley Owen until 2016. Thomas was then reunited with his The Inbetweeners colleague James Buckley when they both joined the cast of the BBC Two sitcom White Gold, with Thomas playing the role of Martin Lavender. He later starred in the comedy movie The Festival in 2018.

Following joining the performing arts through the Footlights, he performed with the fellow University of Cambridge students at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in a production of All’s Well That Ends Well directed by author Duncan Barrett. Following graduating from university, Thomas took to acting professionally, and his parents have accepted and are not ashamed of his choice of career.

He is a double act together with Sweet, and they have performed their show, The Jonny and Joe Show, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His big break in TV was his role as Simon Cooper in The Inbetweeners which was so famous that it spawned 2 feature movies, The Inbetweeners Movie and The Inbetweeners 2. Alongside Bird and writing partner Sweet, Thomas wrote Chickens, a satirical sketch about 3 conscientious objectors during World War I.

In 2011, it was broadcast as part of Channel 4’s Comedy Showcase. In 2012, it was then picked up by Sky One who commissioned a full, 6-episode series, filming started in late 2012 and debuted in August 2013. After this, he starred in the student sitcom Fresh Meat as Kingsley Owne and played a Maths teacher in the first episode of the 2nd series of Threesome.

Thomas started starring in the sitcom White Gold, together with his other The Inbetweeners co-star James Buckley in 2017. He started work on Proposal, a comedy radio series announced as part of BBC Radio 2’s spring ”funny fortnight” in 2018. He portrays Jamie, a man preparing to propose to his girlfriend Lucy (Pearl Mackie).
