Gargano got auditioned on American Idol with an original song, “Growing Pains”. Her performance earned her get three yeses from the judges after impressing them.

She shared that she previously did not think American Idol was a good fit for her but after watching singers including Alejandro Aranda who succeeded in performing original new music on the show, Gargano had a change of heart and decided audition.

“I saw Alejandro Aranda last season and he is a brilliant songwriter/musician and that really made me say to myself, ‘Eh Julia, just go for it, ” she said.

Gargano was born to Frank Gargano and Jeanne McManus. Her father is a singer and as well plays guitar for fun. Her mother allowed her to start taking drum lessons at age six.
