In 1974 Frings was a member of the Aachener Printenschwestern gay student group. After finishing school, Frings resided in Berlin. He was a member of the group Zan Pollo in the 1970s.
In 1982, he wrote his first book, “Men’s Love”, together with the writer Elmar Kraushaar. Frings has been a radio presenter at Sender Freies in Berlin since 1985. From 1992 to 1995, Frings produced and hosted the TV show “Liebe Sin” for the German TV network VOX.[2]
