Mike Pilavachi Soul Survivor
Pilavachi is the Senior Pastor of the Soul Survivor Watford Church, based in North Watford, which he and worship leader Matt Redman established in 1993. A former accountant, he became a youth worker in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, at St Andrew’s C of E church. It was here that the New Wine Christian Family Conferences were introduced by two ministers at St Andrew’s, David Pytches and Barry Kissell.
Pilavachi is celibate and promotes non-marriage celibacy. In lectures and seminars, he indicated that the “celibacy donation” allows him to do some job that he would not be willing to do with a family.
In the spring of 1993, he introduced Soul Survivor. The event is a charismatic Christian festival of 5 days directed at youth, and 1,896 participants were drawn by the original Soul Survivor. Under Pilavachi’s instruction, the event has evolved together with the third week, being Momentum, to accommodate around 30,000 individuals over four decades.
Matt Redman, who visited the youth club of Pilavachi at England Chorleywood’s St Andrews Church, was a worship leader in the early studios of Soul Survivor. In 2011, Matt Redman transferred as a chief of religion. A third week of Soul Survivor will take place in Scotland from the summer of 2014.

Pilavachi has penned a number of books on Christianity including Soul Survivor (with Nicky Gumbel, 2004), Live the Life (with Craig Borlaise, 2001), Storylines;Tracing the Threads of the Bible and most recently, “Everyday Supernatural: Living A Spirit Led Life Without Being Weird”, which he co-authored with friend and colleague Andy Croft.
