Okwui has become a prominent figure in New York’s experimental dance scene. She is known for her many female performances and her frequent collaborations with Ralph Lemon and her husband Peter Bohn. She is also known for her role in the music video for Jay-Z’s album 4:44, produced by TNEG, a production company founded by Arthur Jafa.

In April 2017, Okpokwasili performed at Mass MOCA, responding to Nick Cave’s massive installation, leading up to a special dance performance. The show was organized by Jacob’s Pillow Dance; Music teacher Bill T. Jones first examined the artist’s reaction to Cave’s installation.

She played the role of KK in Josephine Decker’s 2018 movie Madeleine. Among her acting roles, Oqui played the role of Hippolyta in Julie Taymor’s 2013 production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
