Douglas started his broadcasting the weekend weather reports for WNEP-TV. However, it is known that this was during his time in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pennsylvania. Afterward, he joined Satellite News Channel, based in Stamford, Connecticut, from 1982 to 1983, where he worked.
Furthermore, Paul worked at KARE-TV 1983 to 1994 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In addition to this, he served as a weatherman at WBBM-TV for three years prior to returning to Minneapolis where he worked at WCCO-TV.
Most noteworthy, Douglas likewise worked for the Star Tribune where he wrote a daily weather column. It is known that he worked here until his replacement by the WCCO-TV weather team in February 2009.
Citing his work, Paul provided forecasts for three local radio stations. As of today, he has been a reporter for the Twin Cities Public Television show Almanac. As a result of his work, Conservation Minnesota partnered with him to create MNWeatherCenter, a hub for Minnesota weather. He was appointed as the head of their meteorological team in 2009 the St. Cloud Times.
