Williams began her journey to modeling in Nov 1985, when she was discovered by a Click Model Management employee. Later she met with Click’s owner Frances Grill who deemed her too heavy to model. Subsequently, Williams returned to school and, over the course of a year when she lost 20 pounds.
Rachel returned to Click Model Agency in Oct 1986 when she renewed her contract. She got her to break in Jan 1987 after modeling for Mademoiselle magazine. Rachel got the modeling role after another model became sick and was unable to make the swimsuit shoot. Her pictures from the shoot drew a lot of interest from photographers.
Her next job was a photoshoot in Barbados for Arthur Elgort. Upon her return, she worked for French Elle beside Bill King. Her star started to shine brighter from that time on. She booked jobs for the British and Italian editions of Vogue and a sitting for Bloomingdales in Feb 1987. A month later, Bruce Weber photographed her for Calvin Klein.

Additionally, she appeared in Cosmo, Victoria’s Secret and J. Crew. Her other notable appearances include advertising campaigns for Bon Jour jeans, Ciara perfume, Absolut vodka, and Revlon. Two years after signing with Click, she left for Ford Agency. Click filed an $ 11 million breach of contract lawsuit against her. Ford Agency and model Christy Turlington also filled one too but the court ruled in her favor.
She left to study architecture at Columbia University at the height of her modeling career. Immediately after graduation, she rejoined modeling. Upon her return, she posed for Playboy in 1992, appeared in an ad campaign photographed by Richard Avedon in 1995, and walked the runway for Thierry Mugler’s Winter haute couture show. Moreover, she co-hosted the Channel 4 series The Girlie Show from 1996 to 1997. She also featured in George Michael’s “Fastlove” and Simply Red’s video for “Never Never Love” in 1996.
