Bunce and a group of friends devised a plan to challenge Ethiopia’s wild rivers. In February 1973, he and his crew successfully crossed the Awash River in Ethiopia. River guide status has since been fulfilled. Bunce and his mischievous partner thought they could save a dollar or two by bringing in customers. (co-created with John Yost) were born and named after the Egyptian crocodile god who may have saved their lives during the first descent.
Sobek later became a water research company, where Bunce and his colleagues recorded 35 first landings. In 1991, Sobek Expeditions and Mountain Travel merged to form Sobek Mountain Travel. Bangs was president of the Outward Bound from 2001 to 2002.
Bangs is the founder and editor-in-chief of Mungo Park, a pioneer in Microsoft travel publishing. He also created the www.terra-quest.com. He is the founding team leader and contributing editor of Expedia.com. He served as the founder and publisher of Expedia Travels Magazine, managing director of Expedia Radio, and founder and CEO of Expedia Cafes.
He created the Well Traveled division of Slate (a travel news feed) and is the founding editor and producer of MSNBC.com’s Great Escapes. He also directed and created the first and greatest MSN, and in 2005 he founded and ran Yahoo!. News ‘The Adventures of Richard Bunch. In 1981, Bunce was hired as a stuntman in the movie “The Gates of Hell.” The Red Monkey River was created by Bunce in 1991. Bunce directed Turner’s 1997 debut, The Last Wild River Journey, about a group of people exploring the Tekeze River in Ethiopia.
He co-directed the 2005 IMAX film The Mystery of the Nile. The movie Mysteries of the Nile tells the story of a group of explorers led by Pasquale Scarturo and Gordon Brown, who sailed 3,260 miles on the Blue Nile for 114 days and became the first people in history to complete this journey by sea. The Explorer’s story. After the finale of the Bangs Adventures series on Yahoo!! In 2006, Bunce produced the Richard Adventures special for public television with a mission.
