Robert Joseph Tonyan Jr. is a recognized American football tight end for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). Tonyan played college football at Indiana State and signed as an undrafted free agent with the Detroit Lions in 2017.

Robert enrolled in 2012 at Indiana State and began for four years after redshirting his first year. He then appeared in 11 games in 2013, starting 3 as a quarterback. In his 2nd year, he moved to wide receiver, where he caught 54 passes for 747 yards (6th in school history) and 4 touchdowns. In the NFC Championship against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he posted 4 catches for 22 yards and a touchdown during the 31-26 defeat.

On March 17, 2021, the team placed a second-round restricted free-agent tender on him. On May 27, he signed his tender worth $3.4 million. He then tore the ACL in his left knee during the team’s Week 8 game over the Arizona Cardinals on October 28, 2021, forcing him to miss the rest of the 2021 season. Tonyan was placed on injured reserve on November 1, 2021. Later, he re-signed with the team on a 1-year deal on March 20, 2022.
