Ruby Wax is an American-British actress, comedian, author, television personality, and mental health activist. Wax rose to prominence as a famous interviewer who brought a British perspective to American beauty television programs such as The Full Wax, Ruby Wax Meets, Ruby and Ruby Wax Show.

Wax was born in Ruby Wachs and raised in Evanston, IL, the daughter of Edward and Berthe Wachs (née Goldmann). The Family were Austrian Jews who left Austria in 1938 due to the Nazi threat. His father is a sausage maker and his mother is an accountant.

After settling in Chicago, his father changed the spelling of his last name from Wachs to Wax. Wax studied psychology at UC Berkeley and left a year later without completing his degree. Wax immigrates to England to study at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.

He began his acting career as a devoted actor at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre, where he began a long-term writing and directing partnership with Alan Rickman, who would later direct many aspects of his films.
