Sam Champion (Samuel James Champion) an American weather anchor known for his 25-year career on WABC-TV and Good Morning America? He previously co-anchored America’s Morning Headquarters (AMHQ) and 23.5 Degrees With Sam Champion on The Weather Channel. He later ABC back on December 4, 2013, and served as a managing editor of The Weather Channel.
He started working on Weather Channel back on January 1, 2014. Sam also appeared on the Today show on NBC. He then left NBC and Weather Channel back in 2016 but returned to work on a fill-in basis to ABC channel. In June 2019, he got back to WABC-TV working as the weekday morning and noon weather anchor.

Champion previously worked at WPSD-TV in Paducah, Kentucky, and WJKS (later WCWJ) in Jacksonville, Florida. Back in 1988 he sseved as a weather forecaster for WABC-TV’s Eyewitness News in New York City. In 2004, he joined Good Morning America at a salary of $1.5 million annualy.
Back onn April 7, 2008, he started hosting Sea Rescue an educational and informational program in Litton’s Weekend Adventure which focused on the rescue, rehabilitation, and in many instances release of animals back into wildlife.
Back on December 2, 2013, he announced his departure from ABC and got to be an on-air presence and managing editor of The Weather Channel. He had his last show on Good Morning America on December 4th, 2013, and got replaced by Ginger Zee.
He occasionally featured on Live with Kelly and Ryan which was the daily talk show taht was produced by WABC-TV and CNN’s Larry King Live. He startes his 30-second weathercasts by saying, “Let’s get to the boards.” His catchphrase when breaking for weather reports from local ABC stations is, “That’s the weather around the nation. Here’s what you can expect this morning.”
He then joined The Weather Channel hosting his own morning show, the America’s Morning Headquarters (AMHQ) that was first aired on March 17, 2014. In December 2016 he along and The Weather Channel decided not to renew their contract hence leaving the Company officially on December 27, 2016. Following that, he returned to ABC to Fill in for Ginger Zee, as a weather forecaster on Good Morning America. Ginger Zee, the Chief Meteorologist for ABC, was on maternity leave hence the need.
Back on May 22, 2019, it was announced that Champion would be returning to WABC-TV’s morning and noon newscasts and contributing to ABC News, beginning June 3, 2019.
