Stanislav Lobotka Biography
Stanislav Lobotka is a famous Slovak professional footballer who plays for Serie A club Napoli and the Slovakia national team as a midfielder. On March 4, 2012, Stanislav made his Corgon Liga debut for AS Trencin over FK Dukla Banska Bystrica. On June 30, 2013, he joined AFC Ajax for the 2013-14 season on a one-year loan with an option to buy.
Lobotka then played his first match for Ajax in a pre-season friendly encounter against RKC Waalwijk on July 13, 2013. He came on as a 60th-minute sub for Christian Eriksen in a 5-1 victory in Waalwijk at the Mandemakers. Lobotka came to FC Nordsjælland in August, briefly before the transfer window closed. He then made his debut over Brondby on August 30, 2015. Lobotka joined as a regular on the midfield, and in his first season had played all the games except one due to an illness.
The 21-year-old Slovak was then voted player of the year in his first season at the FCN Awards. Lobotka was again voted the club’s player of the year another great season in 2017. Stanislav joined Celta on a five-year contract on July 15, 2017. He then admitted on June 3, 2019, that after Celta’s unsuccessful season, he was open to a transfer, looking to find a club set to play in European competitions next season. He signed with Italian Serie A club S.S.C. Napoli on January 15, 2020, for a reported €24m contract until 2024. Stanislav was benched in his first possible fixture against Florentina in a 0-2 loss on January 18, 2020. Instead, he made a short, 22-minute appearance in Coppa Italia over Lazio being featured in the starting line-up. Lobotka had to be substituted early because of tactical changes, after a red card to Elseid Hysaj. He still witnessed an early winning goal by Lorenzo Insigne in the 2nd minute.
On January 26, 2020, he made his league debut against table leaders Juventus. He came on as a sub for Diego Demme, who was booked with a yellow card in the first half. Napoli then managed to receive an upset win against the favorites, by winning 2-1, with goals scored by Piotr Zielinski and Lorenzo Insigne. Cristiano Ronaldo’s stoppage-time goal did not change the result. Lobotka then had his first league start in the following round, in a 4-2 win at Stadio Luigi Ferraris over Sampdoria.
He played for more than an hour and was replaced by Diego Demme, as the team led 2-1, following goals by Elif Elmas and Arkadiusz. Demme continued to score the third goal and Dries Mertens sealed the victory in stoppage time. Stanislav had also been added to Napoli’s UEFA Champions League team, thus making him eligible to take part in the Round of 16 fixtures over Barcelona. The first competitive set of fixtures between the clubs was also dubbed, by some, the Maradona deroy.

He represented various youth Slovak teams and was called up to the senior Slovakia team for games against Lithuania and Austria in November 2016. Lobotka made his debut in the latter friendly match, together with other debuting players, Albert Rusnak and Matus Bero on November 15, 2016. He played in the 2nd half of the goalless draw. Later, he was called up to multiple fixtures but had to wait for his competitive debut until September 1, 2017, for a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier over Slovenia.
Lobotka played the whole match being a valuable midfielder, fulfilling the expectations after the successful performances of him and Slovakia U21 at the 2017 UEFA European Ynder-21 Championship, and also his move to Celta Vigo. His performance led to Slovakia’s 1-0 home victory and he was dubbed the ‘Man of The Match’ by the media and the fans.
After just three days, he scored his first international goal for the senior team on September 4, 2018. He became the first Slovak to score at Wembley, in a qualifier against England. Lobotka then scored after he tackled and took the ball from Marcus Rashford and exchanged a pass with Adam Nemec, prior to beating Joe Hart in the 3rd minute of the game. Slovakia however went on to lose the match 1-2 after goals by Rashford and Eric Dier.
