Albert Camus Biography

Albert Camus was a French-Algerian writer known for his incredible works such as The Suffering Man and The Plague. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957.Albert Camus became famous for journalism, fiction and writing in the 1940s.

His most famous works, such as The Stranger (1942) and Plague (1947), are classic examples of absurdism. Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1957, Camus died on January 4, 1960, in Burgundy, France. Camus was born on November 7, 1913, in Mondavi, French Algeria. The Blackfoot family was not rich. Camus, whose father was killed during the First World War, was raised by his semi-deaf mother in a low-income neighborhood in Algeria.

Camus excelled in school, entered the University of Algiers, studied philosophy and played on the football team. After contracting tuberculosis in the 1930s, he left the group to focus on academic research. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in philosophy in 1936.
