Albert Schweitzer Biography

Albert Schweitzer (1875–1955) was an Alsatian-German religious philosopher, musician, and African medical teacher. Gabon is credited with establishing Schweitzer Hospital, which provided excellent medical care to the people of Lambarene.

Albert Schweitzer was born on January 14, 1875, in Kaysersberg, Alsace, France, the son of an Evangelical Lutheran pastor. Albert grew up in a comfortable and happy environment. At eight years old, it’s an experience like a lifetime.

At the insistence of another boy, he refused to aim his slingshot at a few birds that “sounded good in the morning sun,” as he later wrote, and moved, and “quietly swore to forget.” At that moment, the church bells mingled with the sunlight and the sound of the birds… it was like the sound of heaven to me. I threw the ropes aside, chased the birds to protect them from my friend’s slingshot, and ran home. ”
