His awards include a Critics’ Choice Award and two NAACP Image Awards, as well as two Golden Globe Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and BFA and Academy Award nominations. In 2016 he received an OBE for services to the arts.

David Oyelowo Career
He began his stage career in 1999 when the Royal Shakespeare Company invited him to star in Ben Jonson’s Volpone, and he also appeared in Oroonoko (he also played the title role in the BBC radio adaptation). Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra (1999), with Guy Henry, Frances De La, Toole and Alan Bates.
However, Oyelowo appeared in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2001 season production of England: A History, as King Henry VI in the trilogy of Shakespeare plays. He is known for his role as Henry.[8]
He is the first black actor to play the King of England in a major production of Shakespeare, in a major blind theater role. In 2001 he won the Ian Charleson Award for Best Classical Theater Performance by an Actor Under 30.
In 2005, David starred in Prometheus Bound, which was revived in New York in 2007. He made his stage debut in 2006 in Inservice Theater Company’s production. The White Devil in Brighton. Run with Brighton actress Priyanga Burford, Israel Aduramo, Penelope Cobbuld and wife Jessica.
